Qualification at the end of the 3-year course:

ORGANISATIONAL TRANSACTIONAL ANALYST

The course is a preliminary training for the:

CERTIFIED TRANSACTIONAL ANALYST (CTA EATA/ITAA) EXAM

FIRST YEAR

  • 8 modules during 2 consecutive days (in the week ends)
  • End-of-year review and assessment

SECOND AND THIRD YEAR

  • 7 modules during 2 consecutive days (in the week ends)
  • End-of-year review and assessment
  • Transactional Analysis conference organised by SIMPAT (Italian association of psychotherapeutic techniques and transactional analysis)

FIRST YEAR

Basic Transactional Analysis and links with other theoretical approaches with a view to analysing and interpreting one’s own and others’ behaviour, identifying effective relational techniques and building more constructive interpersonal relations.

SECOND YEAR

Organisational Transactional Analysis and links with other theoretical and consulting approaches, with a view to analysing and interpreting relational patterns within teams, improving one’s effectiveness, achieving results with others and learning to cope with stress.

THIRD YEAR

Hands-on module supervised by professionals to practice the analysis and management of complex organisational situations with the help of an experienced facilitator.

“TA philosophy”

The building blocks of Transactional Analytical theory and its underpinning assumptions. How TA is applied within an organisation. The theory’s ethics. (The story of Eric Berne, the concept of being OK, fields of action, EATA’s Ethical Code)

“How does our mind work?”

How do a person’s psychological processes work? Where do their emotions, thoughts and behaviours originate?
Linking individual functioning to the life of organisations. (Ego states, structural analysis and functional analysis, diagnosing Ego states, structural pathology of Ego states, Egogram)

“How do we communicate?”

What happens when two people communicate with each other? Are there any tools to make this communication clear and acceptable to both? What can we do when there are communication difficulties? (Transactions, communication rules, Karpman’s options)

Why is feedback from others so important? Which acknowledgments do we need and which do we want to avoid?
The way our behaviour affects our relationship with others. (Types of acknowledgment, Steiner’s stroke economy, McKenna’s stroke profile, existential positions)

“Contracting”

How to enter into “sound” and effective contracts with others. The tools that optimise the relationship between two human beings. (The contract as a TA tool and as an approach, contracting techniques and requirements, levels of contracting, three-way and multiple contracts, contractual framework, psychological distance)

“Why does this always happen to me?”

Does our history repeat itself sometimes? Do we go about our lives and our relationship with others in a consistent way? Which tools can we use to understand and follow the growth and development of a human being? (Definition of scripts, script messages, script decisions, script types, script matrix)

“Organisational scripts and organisational cultures”

How does a group of people with predefined aims evolve? What happens if dysfunctions emerge? What can we do about it? (Rosa Krausz’s organisational scripts, Fox’s concept of labels, Sari van Poelje’s organisational cultures, Gilles Pellerin’s quick diagnosis of dysfunctions in an organisation)

What happens to people who are part of a team with different organisational roles?

“What game are we playing?”

How can we interpret communication among people? The causes of ineffective dynamics between two or more people. Conflict dynamics and management. (Berne’s primordial hungers, time structuring, the concept of Autonomy, the theory of games, Karpman’s drama triangle, Sills’s and Hargaden’s relational perspective of games, games in organisations)

“Dependent or independent?”

Some interpersonal relationships seem to be negative, yet sometimes they last for many years: why? What are the causes of pathological interpersonal relationships and how can we change them? (Discounting and symbiosis, passive behaviours, redefinition, Schiff’s Discount Matrix)

“Self-Efficacy”

Our attitude towards what we do affects its likely success. Our beliefs about people and ourselves can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. (Bandura and Self-Efficacy, self-efficacy sources, limiting beliefs and how to overcome them)

“How do we manage our emotions?”

The racket system is a self-reinforcing circuit of distorted emotions, thoughts and behaviours pursued by those who follow their script. (Erskine & Zalcman). Being aware of any part of it marks the beginning of its change process. By learning to be in touch with reality through our genuine feelings, not only do we start changing the script but we also enhance our immediate problem-solving skills. What is a group and how does it work? The group’s life and evolution stages. Personal needs in the group and how they affect its functioning. Group leadership. (The group according to Berne, P. Clarkson’s group’s Ego States, the group and Ego States)

“Mindfulness and organisational wellbeing”

Meditation and simple yoga exercises can improve our mental efficiency and equilibrium. Practical meditation exercises. The benefits of mindfulness for organisations. (Jon Kabat-Zinn and his medical research, awareness as a basis for our equilibrium, energy levels, “killer” thoughts and how to dispel them)

Personality adaptations according to Transactional Analysis and their importance when talking to someone else. Being emotionally and cognitively attuned with another person, starting from their personality traits. Knowing possible contact areas: feeling-thought-behaviour. Assessment and 3rd year exam

FEES
The course annual fee is € 3,000, exclusive of VAT and registration fee for SIMPAT annual conference (Italian association of psychotherapeutic techniques and transactional analysis).
The annual fee can be paid in full or in three € 1,000.00 instalments (the first one to be paid before the start of the course and the remaining two during the year).

ATTENDANCE
Completion of an academic year is subject to a minimum attendance of 80% for each participant.

BURSARIES
For each three-year course, OTA ACADEMY’s directors reserve the right to award bursaries to trainees who cannot afford the full course fees and who want to undertake a career in Organisational Transactional Analysis. Bursaries cover 50% of the tuition fees.
Applications must be sent to OTA ACADEMY’s Secretariat, together with a detailed CV, and must be received at least three months before the beginning of the course.
Tuition fees do not include travel expenses incurred to attend classes.
